6 Pro Tips to Grow your Floral Biz Fast!

We hope everyone had a nice weekend! We are finally seeing some nice weather in Southern Ontario and are loving all the time we could spend outside this weekend. The grass is getting greener, the trees are starting to grow buds and it’s all just so exciting for new beginnings & to start something new you may have been thinking about for a while. I know we feel more energized when the spring weather hits!

We wanted to share a few pro tips for how to get your feet wet in the wedding industry if you’re thinking about starting a business or need a little guidance with a business you already have. These are things we wish we knew in the beginning and could have helped us tremendously to grow our business quicker.

1. Educate Yourself – This is SO important. Begin by immersing yourself in floral design & business resources. Read books, watch tutorials, and attend workshops to build a solid foundation of knowledge. Find someone you admire in the industry and see if they can mentor you. We found a florist we loved and learned so much from her at the beginning of our journey. Without that initial knowledge we would have been struggling as new business owners.

 2. Practice Floral Design Regularly – Strengthen your floral design skills by practising at every chance you get. Experiment with different floral arrangements and styles. If you have an event, celebration or party coming up, flowers in the decor! Take every opportunity to play with flowers so you get more experience. We also recommend watching tutorials that will teach you specific floral design techniques that are used in weddings.

 3. Create a Portfolio – Start compiling a portfolio of your work. Document your floral designs through photographs and video to use in your portfolio. Clients will want to see your art before they commit to hiring you as their wedding florist. Mentorships are also a great way to build a portfolio as you will learn and get photos / content for your website & social media platforms.

 4. Network in the Industry – Attend local events in your city, bridal shows, and networking gatherings to connect with other vendors in the wedding industry. Building relationships is key to a successful floral business.

 5. Research Market Trends – Stay up to date about the current wedding and floral design trends. This industry is ever changing so you need to keep up! Understanding what’s popular in the market will help you tailor your designs to meet the preferences of today’s couples.

 6. Set Up a Social Media Presence – Create social media accounts dedicated to your floral journey. Share your work, engage with the floral community, and start building an online presence to attract potential clients. Be sure you are consistent with your posts and always stay authentic. Remember that potential clients are hiring you for YOU!

Remember, starting a floral business is a journey, and these initial steps will lay a strong foundation for your growth and success in the wedding floristry industry.
